An important thing to know is that there are no effective treatments for scabies that can be purchased over-the-counter. The scabies mites and all of their eggs need to be killed by the treatment. You can purchase medicine OTC, but you won’t find a product guaranteed to work.

This is simply a matter of the OTC scabies treatments lacking in sufficient strength to get the job done. If you are encountering a condition of extreme itchiness along with an irritated and dry patch of skin, see your doctor immediately for diagnosis. Your doctor needs to take a skin scrape and then have it analyzed in a laboratory to get a proper analysis.

Scabies treatment can be successfully carried out with the proper diagnosis and medicine. They must of course know the extent of the infestation to treat it properly.

An example of a bad infestation would be someone that has HIV; their immune system is so bad that thousands of mites may live in their skin. An infestation as small as 10 or 12 mites on one person is possible if the person has a healthy for exceptional immune system.

How old a person is, and how well they are, factor in to how successful a scabies infestation may be. As a general rule, people that use first-line treatments to approach their scabies infestation, will win the battle in the end.
